Honestly, I was expecting a fairly generic shoujo anime, especially with one that is airing the same season as Sukitte Ii na yo, another seemingly generic shoujo anime (more on that one later) but Tonari keeps surprising me.
So far, we have the two main characters, Shizuku and Haru. Shizuku doesn't want friends because all she cares about are her grades, while friends are the only thing Haru wants. However, his quick temper and outlandish antics prevent him from making friends and Shizuku seems like the only one who will tolerate him and be honest with him at the same time. Haru fancies himself in love with her, kisses her, and hilarity ensues. Enter a chicken and Natsume Asako, who pleads for help with her studies in order to attend an online community gathering - being so cute (and she really is!), none of the girls at school will be friends with her so she is forced to retreat to the online world for companionship. At the end of episode 2, I can only wonder where this anime will go. We've already got a kiss as well as Shizuku's emerging feelings that resulted in a confession. What's next?
